Transformasi Karakter Berbasis Kesadaran Keberlanjutan dalam Pendidikan: Sebuah Analisis Bibliometrik

Abstract

This study aims to analyze trends and the trajectory of global research regarding sustainability awareness in the context of education from 2005 to 2025, employing a bibliometric analysis approach. Data were collected from the Scopus database using the keywords “sustainability awareness” and “education.” The resulting dataset was analyzed using VOSviewer software to explore conceptual relationships through keyword co-occurrence analysis, with a minimum threshold of two occurrences. The analysis indicates a significant rise in research on sustainability awareness since 2015, coinciding with the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Network visualization reveals strong interconnections among the keywords: sustainability awareness, education, sustainable development, climate change, environmental education, and higher education. Mapping results identify three primary research clusters: (1) sustainability-based education and the development of environmental awareness; (2) learning models and assessment instruments for fostering sustainability awareness; and (3) the integration of sustainability values ​​into higher education and teacher education. Density mapping shows that the terms "sustainability" and "awareness" represent the highest density centers, signifying that cognitive and affective dimensions within sustainability education are central to global research. These results underscore the urgency of integrating sustainability-related character values ​​into instruction—particularly in biology education, which holds the potential to cultivate reflective attitudes, ecological responsibility, and awareness of environmental preservation. These findings are expected to serve as a foundation for developing policies and pedagogical innovations aimed at character transformation rooted in sustainability awareness within the educational landscape.
